Kajalgaon: Curfew has been imposed in Bijni sub-division of Chirang district after police resorted to lathicharge and lobbed teargas shells to disperse a mob which lynched a suspected NDBF terrorist and attacked a police outpost, besides burning down a house here.

Sources said curfew has been clamped for 12 hours from tonight in Bijni sub-division of the district after a mob last night lynched a youth, suspected to be a NDFB(S) militant, who allegedly abducted a local businessman Dhruba Barua yesterday.

Angry with the police for not taking appropriate action to rescue the businessman, the mob also attacked Ballamguri police outpost and burnt a nearby house today, following which police took action.

No one was injured in the police action, police said.

The district magistrate has issued curfew orders from 6 pm this evening to 6 am tomorrow.
